Our commitment

Dr. Sharyar Baradaran, DDS, MS is committed to making drbaradaranperiodontist.com usable by everyone, including patients who use assistive technology such as screen readers, voice control, or keyboard-only navigation. We target the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA as our standard, and this site is actively maintained against it rather than reviewed once and left alone.

What we've done

Concretely, on this site today:

• We run automated accessibility scans (pa11y, WCAG 2.1 AA ruleset) against the site and fix what they find. A September 2026 pass found and corrected 62 color-contrast failures across the homepage and contact page — text colors that read fine to a designer's eye but measured below the 4.5:1 contrast ratio the standard requires.
• Every form field on this site (the consultation request form and the “Ask Dr. B” form) has a real, programmatically associated label, not just placeholder text.
• The site can be navigated by keyboard alone, and interactive elements show a visible focus state.
• Images carry descriptive alt text; decorative elements are hidden from assistive technology so they don't add noise.
• Motion respects your system's reduced-motion preference.

Known limitations

We'd rather tell you where this site currently falls short than claim a perfection we haven't verified:

• The office location map on our Contact page is a Google Maps embed. It is Google's interface, not ours, so we cannot directly remediate its accessibility — we do provide the office address and a direct Google Maps link as a text alternative next to it.
• Our Gallery and Before & After pages show clinical before-and-after photo comparisons. Every photo has descriptive alt text, but the specific visual change between the two images is inherently a sighted comparison, and alt text alone may not fully convey it to someone using a screen reader.
